We’ve had a rather deep week here at LBtC — I wanted the world to stop and Mer took on giants Oprah and Apple in the same day. Perhaps it’s only out of self-defense, but I thought I’d lighten things up a bit.

There are lots of posts out there about quirky, strange, and ridiculous terms that people plug into search engines, which in turn refer them to blogs. I figured it would be a good long while until we had even one strange search term, but I was wrong. We are consistently getting traffic from searches for… wait for it… stupid walrus.

And not just stupid walrus, but also STUPID WALRUS. (The traffic is going to last week’s kitchen solutions post, incidentally.) The sheer randomness weighed heavily on my mind. Why walruses, and why must they be stupid? My curiosity and imagination finally got the better of me, and therefore I present to you 11 Theories Why People are Suddenly Searching for a Stupid Walrus.

1. Rabbit Hole Day has been revamped to Stupid Walrus and Stupid Carpenter Day.
2. Global Zombie Uprising has suddenly become a Global Walrus Uprising.
3. People have suddenly become very interested in the lolrus version of Wilford Brimley’s Diabeetus.
4. The bukkit has been found, and the finders wish to taunt.
5. They were looking for this really stupid, er, walrus? (NSFW)
6. Insert obligatory John Lennon reference here.
7. Everyone is suddenly stuck on the walrus boss in Lady Sia or Diddy Kong Racing.
8. Someone wanted to complain about the bad experience they had with a walrus at their local aquarium.
9. Prices for smart walruses are at an all-time high.
10. Walrus moustaches a la The Lorax and Jamie Hyneman are making an unexpected comeback.
11. They were looking for this guy.
