Jen: From everything I can tell, the risk of cancer from snus is practically non-existent, which I think is a strong indication that half the problem with tobacco toxicity is how we process it, and obviously avoidable. Eating snus probably won't kill him, you'll be happy to know, but if he's careless he might OD on nicotine and barf.

As for spit versus swallow, I find you drool a little less with snus than snuff, partially because of the flavor and partially because snus is properly dipped in your upper lip, not lower.

I'd probably classify cloves in with hookas. Yes, bad for you, but no, smoked differently most of the time.

Neat! My bro just introduced me to the theory of snus and was ranting about how tasty it is and all that jazz. I just was like OMG, Mouth Cancer - hi? No way! But now to find out that the risks of cancers from snus is way less.. cool! I'm still kinda grossed out by the theory of tobacco in my mouth that i swallow the juice from. However, it sounds less scary.

I shared that tidbit with him via email and will no longer recoil in fear of cancer when he "eats"? one. Thanks!

I wonder if Cloves should have their own section too. I think they're probably higher on the list of doom than the other things (at least from what i've heard).

<i>"smokers who smoke in public places, especially crowded public places, and a lot of times where children are present"</i>

JJ, I'm with you on this. And, lest I come off as a righteous ex-smoker, I felt that way when I was a smoker, too. Unless I was with a group of smokers, I always made a point to smoke away from people if I could. Smoking around kids drives me nuts, too. We took a trip down south a few years ago, and the number of people who smoked *right next to* their kids (in restaurants, for instance) astonished me.

It does amazes me that now that we can't smoke inside most places, and I don't really have a problem with that in most locations, now some want to stop us from smoking outside. I left the building so you didn't have to deal with my smoke, and I do try to be considerate. But outside, just move away and I won't bother you.
As always, a thoughtful, well researched view point which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. However, I still want you to quit smoking and that said, I am headed out for a smoke before I finish up my day.
